As you read through the scriptures you will find that God gives us very clear instructions on the importance of children and on the importance of the believer raising those children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 tells us this, And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. It is our duty as parents to instruct our children in the knowledge of God, and of His commandments; that they are to love Him, fear Him, serve, and worship Him at all times.
In Matthew 19 Jesus was in a discussion with the Pharisees concerning the rules and laws of marriage when children were brought before Him in the hopes that He might pray over them. The disciples were quick to jump and rebuke those that brought the children not to encumber the Lord Jesus Christ with such a burden and began to turn the children away only to hear Jesus say, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. If Jesus cared so much for the children, and instructed us so often to do the same, we believe here at SIBC that we ought to follow His commands and work diligently as well to teach our children.
We understand that our Sunday School classes are not a substitute for good, solid, biblical teaching in the home. Children are taught Bible stories, doctrine and lessons in Christian living from a very young age as a tool to help you in the home as you desire to see your family grow in the knowledge and admonition of the Lord. It is your duty to diligently teach your children when you sit, when you walk, when you lie down and when you rise up, but we would like to help you in that work on Sunday mornings. We have Sunday School classes for all ages starting from newborn babies all the way up to Adults.
